While organic compositions of natural products, prepared under laboratory conditions, can complement the use of traditional drugs, homemade juices are unlikely to help one cope better with the chronic inflammatory disorder.
An Instagram Reels video – that has garnered more than 29k views – claims that an easy way to manage asthma is to drink the juice made of garlic, parsley, carrots, and celery. Apparently, it opens up the airways and helps one breathe better.
Can a homemade juice really help cope with asthma, a chronic inflammatory disorder induced by airway inflammation? There’s no scientific evidence to support this particular claim. However, an interesting study on the use of natural products in asthma treatment found that organic compositions of natural products, such as beet, honey, onion, lemon, garlic, yarrow, mint, etc., prepared under laboratory conditions, show promise and can complement the use of traditional drugs.
Currently, there’s no cure for asthma; although the symptoms can be treated and controlled with several asthma medications. “The most effective plan to manage asthma is to take proper medication and follow a balanced diet. Also, if you are allergic to certain foods, it’s best to avoid them,” says Dr. Revanth, a consultant pulmonologist based in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.
