A youtube video shared hundreds of times advises how an herbal concoction of senna leaves and ginger can cure coronavirus but the claim is not true.
After almost 11 months into the coronavirus pandemic, netizens are still coming up with ‘do it yourself’ solutions, homemade remedies as a cure for the infection.
A video shared on Facebook claims that they have a guaranteed treatment for coronavirus. The caption reads ‘Coronavirus ka mukammal ilaj. Aur vah bhi desi’ which can be roughly translated as a homemade remedy that is the final cure for coronavirus.
The person in the video showcases different ingredients like cloves, ginger, and senna Makki (a herb known as Senna leaves). He then goes on to demonstrate the procedure for preparing the concoction which will work as the remedy for the virus.
He boils ginger, crushed cloves, and senna Makki into boiling water and let it brew. Further, he suggests squeezing lemon and claims that this technique is used as a treatment in hospitals in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Suggesting the use of ginger and other cloves has indeed become very common indeed. According to Dr. Ahmad Firdaus Mohd Haris, President and Co-founder Medical Mythbusters Malaysia who is a member of the First check group, this phenomenon is common because ginger and cloves have been widely regarded to have antibacterial and antioxidant properties.
He adds that “There has yet to be any credible evidence that these concoctions can treat coronavirus. For us to know the actual efficacy one needs to prove its evidence. There has to be a population study size and what percentage of people actually recover with just these concoctions. The viral load of these people is to be known both before and after taking these concoctions. Since none of these details are known, it cannot be a proven cure for coronavirus and thus claiming it is absolutely false.”
The claim is absolutely baseless and has no proof of its efficacy.
